  • Bronner, Solaris e Souvignier Gris (a bacca bianca)
  • Merlot Kanthus (variante resistente a bacca rossa)

The TORREROSSA winery was established in 2011 in the heart of the Varese lakes district—a region with a deep-rooted viticultural heritage, where, as early as the 16th century, the hills were shaped by vast, sweeping vineyards. Our mission is to champion and protect this land—a historical and environmental legacy that we are committed to preserving for future generations through responsible, precision viticulture.

At our winery in Travedona-Monate, we express the local identity by crafting wines from Nebbiolo and Merlot grapes—varieties historically established in and representative of this specific geographical area.

In 2018, we took a decisive step toward sustainability by adopting PIWI grape varieties. We chose to invest in the future of viticulture by expanding our vineyards with PIWI (an acronym for pilzwiderstandfähig, or “fungus-resistant”) vines—varieties that possess a natural resistance to common fungal diseases. For this pioneering agronomic project, we selected the following cultivars:

Bronner, Solaris, and Souvignier Gris (white varieties)

Merlot Kanthus (a resistant red variety)

This strategic approach allows us to drastically reduce vineyard interventions—in years with favorable climatic conditions, we can eliminate treatments entirely. The result is healthy, pristine, high-quality fruit, brought into the cellar with the utmost respect for the ecosystem.

A bespoke, artisanal approach

Today, TORREROSSA spans 1.5 hectares, with an average annual production limited to approximately 5,000 bottles. This scale allows us to maintain an artisanal and meticulous approach at every single stage of the production process—from vineyard management to bottling—ensuring absolute excellence and exclusivity for each of our labels. In Varese, the City of Lakes, we produce wines from Nebbiolo and Merlot grapes, typical local varieties, at our winery. In 2018, we also invested in the future of viticulture by planting new vineyards with varieties from the PIWI family (an acronym from the German pilzwiderstandfähig), meaning fungal-resistant grapes. To achieve this, we used the Bronner, Solaris, and Souvigner Gris cultivars (white grapes) and Merlot Khantus (a “resistant” variant of Merlot). These varieties allow us to drastically reduce the number of vineyard treatments, even eliminating them entirely in particularly favorable climate years, thus bringing perfectly healthy grapes to the winery. The winery currently extends over 1.5 hectares and produces an average annual production of 5,000 bottles.
